Big news today from the MOBA front, the “spiritual successor” to the smash game DOTA - League of Legends - will be opening up the beta to everyone. The official launch for the “pre-season” begins on the 27th, so this is a great time to get in and see what all the hype is about before launch.

Riot Games has been working on this bold new project for some time, and it's “finally” here. For those who haven't been following, the model is something new – a free to play (meaning you won't even have to buy a box copy unless you'd like some special perks) MOBA with customization options and more from the cash shop.

League of Legends recently underwent a complete UI overhaul, with new voices and a sleek interface reminiscent of the Warcraft 3 engine that powered DOTA, including a brand new three player map that focuses on smaller, more intense battles where a player can have more impact on the outcome of the game (You guys who hate being stunlocked for a whole fight, this map is for you!)

So if you're old or new it might be time to head over to the website and try out all the goodies before there's a gaming “Riot” next week when it goes live!
