It was a game made by some of the great minds behind everyone's favorite mod map, the legendary DOTA. It was touted and revered as being a free to play amazing game, albeit behind a hideous Adobe Air powered gasbag of a client. But yesterday, the hammer dropped. The shoe fell, the dream died, and the bloated disgusting entity known as League of Legends revealed its true colors. The cash shop, a longstanding method of income for most free to play games, generally provides some customization options, visual perks, some boosts, for a reasonable price. Well, if the League of Legends numbers provided from some screencaps taken yesterday are correct, this game could cost you literally well over a thousand dollars to unlock everything. A far cry from beating a guy on Street Fighter 4 to unlock M. Bison, this pricing model makes cash cows like Gunbound and Maplestory look like GOOD DEALS.
Of course Riot needs to make money. Of course they clearly needed a cash shop. But charging ten dollars a hero? Want to experience the “full game?” I hope your wallet is loaded up. It appears that the years of “dedication to the game” from the riot developers was nothing more than the standard load of tripe that's been shoved down gamers throats since the realization that people will pay money to play games. Sure, there will be some morons willing to spend hundreds of dollars to unlock heroes but gamers in general are sick and tired of being bent over with absurd prices and fees. Games cost a lot to make there is no argument there but these prices are off the wall batshit insane. Want to toss out that “It's beta, prices are not set yet!!!” excuse? You have about a week to cling to your misplaced hope.
There's a reason cash shops haven't been used in competitive games, because it does what no competitive game should have, an intrinsically even playing field. If player A drops a grand on runes and champions, he is going to have a serious, non-skill advantage on player B.
I remember when I got behind this game. I told my friends, my family, hell I even told the neighbor's dog in hushed whispers that it was coming, this amazing game, this DOTA inspired work of genius. I should have known that there was only one driving force and that was not the players, not the game, but straight up money motivation. And come the end of the month, I'd wager any number of “influence points” that Riot is going to see what happens when you alienate and assault your playerbase. You may want to give Funcom a call and ask them how Age of Conan turned out.
Good luck, Riot.

Are u on pay from S2 and HoN or what?
Deleting u from bookmarks
Both games are good and and also have some stuff they need to deal with it but your trashing one side and lifting one into sky is over the top
How about start writing about some greatly OP HoN heroes,to similar "all humanoid looking" heroes, like they are all made from one same pixel, while graphic is great in terms of clean gameplay its hard to focus on fight 5v5 coz sometimes is "to colorful"

Nothing more. You don't have to agree, but you definitely need to see.
Nice to see all the LoL fanboys came though. You guys need should be the ones upset, not me. I'm not spending a dime on the game, looks like you guys are, and it's not cheap.
money can be used to purchase shortcuts or character
costumes. And the price you mentioned is far from the priceit actually costs to buy shortcuts. FACT*
Its estimated that a hardcore player can unlock everything
within a month of playing. FACT*
Guys if you didnt know this Hunter gets paid by S2games
to spread lies and promote HoN. FACT*
League of Legends is the Future of Moba gaming
FACT*
No, a hardcore player cannot unlock everything in a month, it was shown it would take over 300 games to get one of the 10 top tier heroes with the prices they listed.
I have many sites, and I am approached by advertisers all the time, that's how sites make money, by advertising.
League of Legends will be better thanks to this article, Riot Games slapped it's community in the face by releasing the prices without thinking of the impact.
They will think twice, You're welcome for shining light on their amateur actions of releasing those prices.
i would gladly play the worst character in LoL for 300 to get top 10 tier hero
yes you are right this may have helped them but also may have harmed the reputation of LoL, it's beta and their a new company give them a brake, if a baby missed the toilet you dont slap it in the face with a paddle >: O
I played HoN and LoL i think their both good games
I dont see why you had to put it that way
its like an alien conspiracy
ok im done…
besides whats up with all the moba games demi-god, LoL, HoN, and now dota 2.0 O.o ok i had a little left in me
